Greek tragedies developed from religious festivals. This was the time when Greek gods and goddesses were highly worshiped by people. Offertories and major tributes were given to the gods to ease them and grant their people with more blessings. If the gods were not pleased they usually punish their people, ending up in many tragedies that occurred in Greek history.
