1. Make sure you have basic understanding of what the passage is about
2. USE YOUR OWN WORDS
3.add a citation
4. If you use any of the phrases directly from the passage put them in quotation marks
(Paraphrasing a whole passage is difficult I would recommend taking pieces of information from the passage and adding in things that you come up with from that)
