Canon Law or Ecclesiastical Law is the body of Law governing the Catholic Church. In this sense not only governs the Church itself but also the relationship between it and its external subjects, that is, all catholics. Sometimes argued as not always binding from a civil point of view, canon law was taken very seriously in the Middle Ages.
