y = 1/3 x - 10 . . . (1)
2x + y = 4 . . . . . (2)

Putting (1) into (2) gives
2x + 1/3 x - 10 = 4
7/3 x = 4 + 10 = 14
x = (3 x 14)/7 = 3 x 2 = 6
x = 6

From (1), y = 1/3 (6) - 10 = 2 - 10 = -8
y = -8
