the whole thing was about one central ring controlling all realms of the world. it gives the message and impact to the whole world that humans and really any species like humans want to rule all things on earth and want to overtake everything, so they are incharge. it's a negative dig to humans saying that we would kill and do anything (literally) so that we are control and there are few (frodo and his team) who would actually do the right thing
