Josie has a total of 5 quarters.

How to find the number of quarters using equation?

Josie has 16 coins. Each of her coins is either a quarter or a dime.

Let

x = number of quarters

y = number of dime

she has 6 more dimes than quarters.

Therefore,

y = 6 + x

x + y = 16

-x + y = 6

2y = 22

y = 11

11 = 6 + x

x = 11 - 6

x = 5
