The material found within the cell wall and is the basis of the gram stain is the TEICHOIC ACID. These acids are not found in the gram-negative cells. Apart from that, these acids or polymers are also play crucial roles in determination of cell shape, cell division regulation, and other aspects that can only be found in gram-positive cells.
