because photosynthesis is the process that plants use to turn nutrients from the soil and light energy into the food it needs.

Photosynthesis is the process in which plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and creates oxygen that it then releases into the atmosphere. It provides all living organisms with oxygen that all living organisms need to survive.
