In musical terminology what we know as tempo is the speed or pace of a given piece. Basically how fast or slow we perform it. We usually write the tempo of a musical piece at the start, and in the modern Western music this is indicated in beats per minute (bpm). When we are pressing forward, we are gradually speeding up, and that's called "stringendo". Hope this helps!
