Why conflict is sometimes characterized as a trap?

Because engaging conflict usually means perpetuating more pain and suffering and not finding a solution. The U.S. entrance in the Vietnam war is an example. WE entered the conflict to help bring it to an end instead it became a more gruesome and violent war than it had been before and the casualties quadrupled before it came to an end.
