[tex](0,-5) \\ x_1=0 \\ y_1=-5 \\ \\ (4,2) \\ x_2=4 \\ y_2=2 \\ \\ \hbox{the slope } = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=\frac{2-(-5)}{4-0}=\frac{2+5}{4}=\frac{7}{4}[/tex]

The slope is 7/4.

To find the slope of a line between two points, you compute (y∨2 - y∨1) and divide it by (x∨2 -x∨1)

Here, that looks like (2 - (-5))/ (4 -0), which becomes, 7/4, which is your slope!
