7(x-2)=4(x+1)-21  perform indicated multiplications on both sides

7x-14=4x+4-21  combine like terms on right side

7x-14=4x-17  add 14 to both sides

7x=4x-3  subtract 4x from both sides

3x=-3  divide both sides by 3

x=-1
