The paintings of Lascaux weren't created to depict the animals as religious idols or gods such as in other religions of both current day and the ancient world. They likely were created to depict everyday encounters with animals as a way of recording their daily lives. I can only assume that they didn't have religions as we do today so they merely did them out of curiosity and to show future generations of their past experiences.
