Why does Smollett disagree when silver calls himself captain?

Smollett disagrees because he is a man who lives by the book, he believes in rules and regulations all the way and has much integrity. Silver is an opportunist, and Smollett knew that Silver didn't come by the position the way that he should have, the honest way the rules dictate.
