I believe it's false because an astronomical unit. (au) is about the average distance between Earth and The Sun which is 8 light minutes therefore a light-year isn't a smaller distance than au.

1 au = 1.49 x {10}^{11} meters

1 light year = 9.46 x {10}^{15} meters

1 light year = 63241.1 au

I hope this helped you! :)
