Melanie bought 3 adult tickets and 1 children ticket for $38. John bought 3 adult tickets and 2 children tickets for $52. What is the cost of each type of ticket

If the cost of adult ticket is x and that of children ticket is y
Then 3x +y = $38
         3x+2y =$52, solving simultaneously
we subtract the two equation,
              -y = -14 
thus; y =14 
to get x we substitute y with 14
            3x = 38-14
              3x =24
                x =8
Therefore, the cost of 1 adult ticket is $8 while the cost of children ticket is $14
