Why did the framers of the Constitution include the concept of limited government?

The reason why the Founding Fathers included the concept of limited government is because they wanted to ensure that the federal government did not become too powerful and subsequently tyrannical. Do to this they implemented a system of "checks and balances," between the three main branches in the federal government.
