Besides North Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos border the country of South Vietnam. Due to their close proximity to South Vietnam, both of these countries felt the effects of the Vietnam War (1950's-1970's). This almost two decade long civil war caused thousands of casualties and negatively effected all of the countries in this area.
